The Community Development Grants Program does this by supporting organizations that nurture the participation of people living in poverty to change structures and policies that affect their lives.
The National Economic Development Grants Program focuses on supporting five types of Economic Development Institutions (EDI's). These are typically community-based organizations and businesses that create just workplaces, provide good jobs and develop assets for low income people that are owned by families and communities. CCHD supports EDI's that are creating structures that encourage people living in poverty to hold leadership roles in, and have ownership of the organization.
Each year CCHD distributes national grants to more than 300 projects based in local communities. Additional projects are funded by 25% of the CCHD money collected that is retained by the diocese.
